Ryan Justice takes a Different Direction
September 9, 2005. Ryan Justice, leading driver for the Canby Oregon based
Northwest Autosport Inc. is looking in a different direction
as the 2005 Star Mazda Series that he regularly competes in
winds down.
What makes this direction so different are first, the racing
machines that he is driving and second, the type of race
tracks they compete on. What he calls his normal racecar, an
open-wheel carbon fiber composite car weighing 1320 lbs. and
having 240 HP campaigning on mostly road courses to the ASA
Speed Truck that is a steel tube constructed fiberglass
bodied pick-up truck weighing 2600 lbs., having 330 HP and
driving mostly on oval type courses.
After competing in Round 9 of the Star Mazda Series on
September 3rd, in Bowmanville Ontario Canada and
finishing a strong 8th, Justice spent the next 14
hours traveling to his next event in St. Johns Arizona.
There he would jump into an ASA Speed Truck to attempt to
qualify for the ASA Speed Truck Challenge at the 8th Annual St. Johns Grand Prix. After only having 7 laps on
this unfamiliar track, Justice qualified his truck in the 9th starting position. “It was very difficult to have never seen
the track, then getting out there and having the
transmission break after only 3 laps”, stated Justice. “I
want to thank the official’s of the ASA Speed Truck
Challenge for giving me the 4 hardship laps after my crew
changed the transmission. It was a tremendous benefit to
me.”
The event ended very well for Ryan as he took the Rich’s
Motorsport’s Chevrolet to the 3rd and final
podium spot in his first ASA Speed Truck Challenge race.
Next up for Ryan, testing at Mesa Marin Speedway on
September 9th in preparation for the “The
Bullring” in Las Vegas, NV on September 24th. For
