Tom Sutherland joins Northwest
Autosport
June 10, 2006. Northwest
Autosport announced last week they have signed 17 year old
Tom Sutherland to a multi-race contract for the 2006 Star
Mazda Championship Series. Sutherland a 17 year old junior
at Los Gatos High School, competed in the 2004 and 2005
Formula BMW Series. In the 2004 season, he had 14 starts and
14 finishes, was 5th in the Rookie Cup points, and at age 15
set a new record for the youngest driver to compete at the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In 2005, he had 14 starts and
14 finishes, finishing 4th at Indianapolis and placing 9th
in Championship points with nine Top Ten finishes.
June 22nd – 25th and round 5 of the
Star Mazda Championship Series from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
is where Sutherland will be added to the Northwest Autosport
driver line up along side Phil Fogg Jr. and teammate Ryan
Justice. Tom’s experience here over the last 2 years will
certainly help this series rookie as the team arrives at
Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, a course who few in the series
have only seen once and many not at all. His pair of 7th place finishes last year in rounds 5 and 6 of the Formula
BMW series shows his consistency at the high speed Canadian
circuit.
Northwest Autosport is very excited about round 5 of the
2006 Star Mazda Championship as they enter into the largest
event they will see
all year. With a new attendance record of 336,000 spectators
over 3 days being set in 2005, there is no better place for
this team to show their speed and experience. Listed below
