Northwest Autosport Records Expert Class Victory at Miller Motorsports Park
May 18, 2008. Portland, Oregon. Making their first appearance in the 2008 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear, Northwest Autosport and driver Phil Fogg Jr. recorded the Expert Series class victory in Round Two of the championship at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah this past weekend.
Driving the #29 Consonus Health Services Pro Formula Mazda, Fogg, from Portland, Oregon, would weave his way through a first lap melee to finish just outside the top-ten overall in the ultra-competitive championship.
"Mike and Vick gave me a great race car. We were on a rail most of the race while I could see the other guys' cars having real handling challenges," Fogg said. "I am very happy to win the experts class and finish as well overall. The standing start was a new experience for me and as I came into the first corner I was right behind two cars that spun and I had to pick my way through them, zigging one way and zagging the other to make my escape."
"We're happy to come back to Miller Motorsports Park, where we captured the overall race victory in 2007 with Lorenzo Mandarino, and record an Expert Class victory with Phil," commented Northwest Autosport team manager Michael Hernandez. "He drove a smooth, smart race and got to celebrate on the podium."
Northwest Autosport, with drivers Phil Fogg Jr. and Steve Cook, will return to the championship for Rounds Four and Five at their hometown circuit of Portland International Raceway on June 25-27. The Miller Motosports Park round of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear can be seen on Speed Channel at 3:00PM Eastern Time on Sunday, May 31.
